Our Direction to the Future

The Past 150 years

About 1835, Thomas McKeough, having suffered "The misfortunes of business," returned to Ireland from Paris, Ontario where he had arrived about 1829. He left behind two young boys, John (age 12) and William (age 11) McKeough, who were apprenticed to Edward Jackson, a tinsmith in Hamilton.

In 1847 they came to Chatham and established a hardware store on the north side of King Street, between Fifth & Sixth streets, later moving to 156 King Street. In the 1880's J. Franklin McKeough, William McKeough’s second son purchased the Dover Street foundry of Robert Parkinson and Son and the business moved there.

In 1905 the business was incorporated as McKeough and Trotter Limited, and in 1943, the name was changed to McKeough Sons Company Limited. In 1974 Mark’s and Co. with branches in Hamilton and London were purchased.

From the original hardware, the business went in a number of directions – manufacturers and suppliers of gasoline engines, boilers, saw mills, boats, motors, drilling rigs, drainage pumps, machine work, steel pipe, and steel warehousing.

The Present Day

With the acquision of Mechanical Plumbing & Heating in 2005, McKeough Supply strengthened it's team by adding branches in Hanover and Collingwood. McKeough remains a key distribution partner for the HVAC, IPVF, Plumbing and Refrigeration industries in Ontario.

The kind of merchandise sold may have changed over 150 years. But one thing has not changed - THE CUSTOMER COMES FIRST.

The Future

The key to our sucess is our people. Our people are our future. The strength of our team will ensure that McKeough Supply Inc will continue to serve your needs for another 150 years.
